How To Get The Most Out Of Your Dance Class

Communication

We will keep you informed of upcoming events etc via newsletters, which will be emailed or sent home from time to time and will also be available on this site. Please make sure you always come into the studio on the first day of each term to pay fees and check for any special information.

Punctuality

It is advisable to arrive at least 5 minutes before class is due to start so students are changed and ready on time. Students of Pre Elementary Level and above should arrive at least 15 minutes prior so they have sufficient time to begin a personal warm-up.

Viewing Classes

You are welcome to view classes but to keep distractions to a minimum we prefer that parents view classes from the upstairs viewing room only. Please do not bring pre schoolers into the studio during classes. If you do come into the studio during a class please remain very quiet.

When Waiting For Classes

In consideration of others please wait quietly in the foyer or upstairs until your class is called.

Safety

To help make our job easier, please try to be on time to collect your children. For everyone's piece of mind please ask your children to wait quietly inside the foyer to be collected after class, rather than out in the car park. We cannot keep an eye on the children if they are waiting or playing outside the building.

Ballet Students

Girls - It is important that all students come to ballet dressed neatly with long hair tied up in a plait, bun or similar as appropriate. Dance clothing and shoes are available at "Uni-specs Dancewear" 108 Hurstmere Rd, Takapuna and "The Dancers Wardrobe" Remuera Mall, 319 Remuera Rd.

A leotard (of any colour), short white ankle socks or pink ballet tights with well fitting pink ballet shoes. We recommend a crossover ballet cardigan for the colder weather.

Adults:
Comfortable dance clothing with long hair tied back.

Second Hand Clothing/Shoes

If you have good quality second hand dance clothing/shoes for sale please place them in a bag together with your name, phone number and the price required. Give them to Marian and she will try to sell them on for you. This is a free service for our students.

Water Bottles

It is a good idea for students to bring their own named water bottle to class especially during the humid summer months.

Career in Dance?

Please be assured that a decision not to sit dance exams will not prevent a student from going on to full time dance training and a possible career in dance if they wish. Marian already has seen former students graduate with degrees in dance performance.
