Ask anyone who
has ever been to see a show by Torbay's Marian McDermott School of Dance
and they will be sure to say how impressed they were. Marian literally
spends a whole year choreographing and producing a really unique and creative
ballet story for her many students to perform. This year's show was no
exception. The school proudly presented two ballets. "The Greatest
Show on Earth" by the junior ballet students and "Pictures at
an Exhibition" by the senior ballet and senior contemporary students.
The Jazz students, junior contemporary student and One Step Beyond also
performed so the programme was varied and entertaining.

The Greatest
Show On Earth story:
A circus is in
town and the Ringmaster proudly welcomes the audience. He leads the grand
parade and then the performance starts. All goes well until the acrobat
dance. One of the acrobats would rather play the part of a clown and ruins
the acrobat dance. Next a clown would rather be an acrobat and ruins the
clown dance. The Ringmaster is furious and in the dressing room he reprimands
the two performers. The show continues but the Ringmaster decides that
rather than risk the show being ruined again he will compromise and allow
the clowns and acrobats to swap parts. He calls them to the dressing room
and gives his decision. The dancers swap costumes and go on to perform
confidently and happily in the role they really wanted in the first place.
The circus is a huge success and everyone celebrates.

Pictures
At an Exhibition Story
A girl, Therese
has spent the afternoon visiting The Louvre art gallery in Paris. She
is tired and falls asleep on one of the gallery benches. When she wakes
up she discovers she has been locked inside the gallery and everyone
has left. She desperately tries to find her way out but her way is always
blocked. As she wanders from room to room she observes many wonderful
paintings and they seem to come to life. She finds herself becoming
more and more involved in what the paintings portray. Finally a painting
of a Paris café seems to completely draw her in and she becomes
part of the painting.
