Term Four Newsletter 2002

Hello everyone

By now you will probably be aware that we are busy learning dances and rehearsing enthusiastically for our annual show, which will be performed towards the end of Term 4. The show involves all the dance students - both ballet and contemporary dance. It is an exciting time and promises to be a very rewarding experience for us all.

When:
The show will be performed at Centrestage Theatre, Orewa on Sunday November 10th with performances at 1.00pm and 4.30pm. You will also need to be available for rehearsals at the theatre in the morning of Saturday November 9th and/or Sunday November 10th.

Show Items:
The show will be bigger than ever this year. There will be three separate items:

"Pictures at an Exhibition" - A beautiful ballet inspired by some wonderful paintings and performed by the senior ballet students.

"The Golden Feather" - A delightful ballet story significantly developed from a previous show and performed by all the ballet students.

An as yet untitled Contemporary Dance item performed by the Contemporary Dance students.

Commitment:
To all our students we wish to encourage your total commitment to this production. It is an important part of the dance programme and one of the positive alternatives we offer to dance exams. It is an opportunity for you all to demonstrate your very best dancing in a positive and supportive environment. We are confident you will all enjoy the challenge and rewards of dancing on stage.
It is very important that you try hard to make it to all the rehearsals on time each week - it is very frustrating for everyone if people are missing. Please let your teacher know ASAP if you are unable to perform in the show or will be unavoidably absent from any rehearsals.

Bookings:
Tickets will be on sale about three weeks prior to the show. You will be given detailed information about how to purchase tickets closer to the time.

Show Notice Board:
Parent Information Notice Boards will be on display in the hall. We will need plenty of volunteers to help during the combined rehearsals and in the theatre. Please check the notice board for any new important information and volunteer to help by writing your name and telephone number on the lists provided.

Costumes:
The vast majority of costumes are already made and able to be hired from "The Performing Arts School of NZ". However there are a few extra costumes needed. Please add your name to the Parent Information Notice Board if you would be willing to undertake a sewing job - both machine sewing and hand sewing jobs are awaiting volunteers.

Stars Dance in the Moonlight

Production Cost:
We ask that each performer pays $15.00 which will help pay for costume and prop hire. Please pay this amount promptly and preferably separately to your Term 4 fees.

Rehearsals:
Two weeks prior to the show it will be necessary to hold combined cast rehearsals so that we can put the whole show together. Please see the detailed rehearsal schedule on the back of this sheet. These rehearsals are instead of your normal scheduled class time and so you will most likely find that your normal dance class day and time is altered in some way. We understand that this may be inconvenient for some of you but unfortunately there is just no other way to do it. Please make a special effort to be on time and fully commit yourself to these combined rehearsals as the overall experience is well worth the effort. Please bring plenty of food and drinks and quiet reading/drawing type activities for times when you are waiting for your turn to dance.

We ask that parents (other than the official parent helpers) do not stay and watch the combined class rehearsals, as there is just not enough room in the hall for everyone. Also you will enjoy the show more if you have not already seen it beforehand.

Please telephone Marian at home on 473 7665, mobile 025 967 040 if you have a problem or a concern. We are looking forward to another successful and enjoyable show and thank you all for your continued support.

Marian, Cara and Katie.
