Hello everyone
My first piece of important news is to tell you all
that I have decided to change the name of the school to "Marian McDermott
School of Dance". This is to reflect the inclusion in the programme
of contemporary dance.
The original contemporary dance class offered to
students of Level 6 ballet and up has been so popular that we have decided
to also offer a contemporary dance class for younger students of our Level
4 and 5 ballet classes. Both classes are held on Friday afternoons. It
is possible for students not currently studying ballet to attend contemporary
dance classes, but some previous dance experience is preferred. Many students
choose to study both ballet and contemporary dance. Let me know if you
would like to join either of these classes.

Over the next few years it is highly likely that
other dance styles will be offered at the school as well, so keep your
ears to the ground for further developments.

From now on, when paying fees by cheque, please can
you make them out to the new name of "Marian McDermott School of
Dance"?
Our website is looking fabulous, and even more so,
now that there are some great new photos. A big thank you goes to Debbie
Powell who gave her time to photograph some of the students for the website.
The website address has also changed to: www.marianz.co.nz
Please take the time to update your bookmark to this site and check it
regularly for news and information. I can be contacted via email at my

and I would love feedback about either the website or the classes. Let
me know if you have ideas or links for the website.

We extend a special welcome to our new pianist, Rose
Cheng. Rose is confidently accompanying a couple of the classes. I am
still looking for another pianist, so if you know of anyone suitable please
let me know.

Soon we will be starting to work towards the show.
Once we begin please make an extra effort to come to class each week as
it is so frustrating for everyone when people are away. The Contemporary
Dance students will also be performing in the show. A reminder that the
show will be performed at Centrestage Theatre, Orewa on Sunday November
10th @ 1.00pm and 4.30pm with rehearsals at the theatre on Saturday 9th
November .
