Term
Three Newsletter 2001
Hello Everyone
Term Three is upon us already with
class numbers healthy and enthusiasm high. We have an exciting time ahead,
as soon we will all start learning dances for the show. The show will
be performed on November 18th at Centrestage Theatre, Orewa. The programme
will include a children's ballet story with an underwater theme and also
a separate classical ballet for the more senior students. More detailed
information will follow shortly.

Change of Teacher:
In order to give Cara greater opportunity to assist with the show we have
decided that for the second half of the year Cara will teach the Level
2 and 3 classes on Mondays. Marian will continue teaching all the other
classes including the level 4 Thursday class.
|
|
This
change will more effectively utilize Cara's choreographic skills as she
will have responsibility for choreographing and rehearsing the show dances
for Level 2 and 3.

Positive Developments:
You may be interested to hear that there have been some very positive
developments since Marian made headlines last year with her views on ballet
teaching. New Zealand's main dance networking/resource organisation "DANZ"
(Dance Aotearoa New Zealand) is currently developing a Code of Conduct
for Dance Teachers. It has been undertaken to address some of the concerns
Marian raised and "DANZ" has approached Marian for her comments
on what they have put together so far.
|
Also the biggest ballet training
body in New Zealand - "The Royal Academy of Dance" (RAD) has
just undertaken a major review and made major changes which address many
of the issues she raised.
Congratulations:
During the first week of the school holidays three of our senior students,
Natalie Scarr, Jessica Harris and Caroline Gray, traveled to Wellington
to attend a week long seminar at NZ's leading full time tertiary level
ballet school; The New Zealand School of Dance. The seminar was attended
by many of the most talented ballet students from all over New Zealand.
Out of 52 Pre Elementary students Caroline was one of six nominees for
the scholarship for that level which is an excellent achievement. The
students at Pre Elementary level were judged on their overall achievement
at ballet, jazz and contemporary dance. Well done Caroline and congratulations
from us all!
Natalie and Jessica studied ballet, contemporary and repertoire. The NZ
School of Dance Artistic Director invited Natalie and Jessica to consider
auditioning for next year's intake for the full time training course at
the school. Well done girls - we're very proud of you.
Good luck for a great term of dancing
everyone.
Marian and Cara.
